The article talks about Apple Inc. and its plans of major changes to iTunes since its debut
in 2003.
Bloomberg acquired this information from people with direct knowledge of
the matter, and they mentioned that Apple would release the details of the
plans later in the year to the public. Any change to iTunes becomes
critical to the company since it is a major source of revenue. Also the changes
are sure to affect the music and media industry because it is the “gateway” to
many users of the Apple products such as iPhone, iPod, Mac computers, etc. to
purchase music, movies, shows and television shows.
What started as a media player has turned
into a “digital media hub”, and is now more likely going to integrate with
iCloud. iCloud is an internet-based storage service aimed at fixing problems
such as organization of materials and contents in Apple products. An example of
this can be the contents of you mobile device and trying to organize the
library full of music, photos, videos and applications; iCloud will do that for
you. This will more likely be one of the major changes of iTunes. Another
change will be finding things of your interest much easier. In February, Apple
acquired Chomp, a company that makes it easier for you to find Apps to
download. This will more likely influence iTunes as well.
To make it more of an entertainment
feel rather than looking at the spreadsheet, iTunes will provide more images
and videos to give a much richer experience, and make iTunes more fun. Music
labels have always constantly urged Apple to offer a music-subscription
service, so that customers could get unlimited access to songs by paying a
monthly fee. However the people reassured that Apple wouldn’t announce that
type of service. It was Steve Jobs vision to allow people to buy music, and
that is what Apple is sticking to.
